01 / The night shift
Patch and the error page.
It started at 2:14 a.m.

Patch & Ops
Patch lives on
a page nobody wanted.
Someone put him on an error template years ago, gave him a visor that reads 404, and forgot about him.
Then one night the whole shop went dark, and the forgotten dog was the only thing still answering.
The links went missing.
The visitors left.
Patch stayed.
[By morning the other pages had dogs of their own, and one rule held for all of them:]
Every dog wears
its status code.
A 503 dog naps through traffic spikes, a 301 dog never stays where you left it, a 200 dog thinks everything is fine. The code on the collar is part of the drawing, and the chain keeps it.
Why plain characters
That is why every
dog is made of text.
Text is the oldest picture a computer can show. A dog built from keyboard characters fits inside a contract, costs little to store and looks the same in a wallet, a marketplace or a terminal, years from now.
It also suits Patch. He began as a doodle in a template, so his whole kennel is drawn the same way: monospace, slightly crooked, proud of it.
Woof404.
4,444 dogs. One kennel.
Drawn on Robinhood Chain, merged four at a time, kept by whoever holds them.
Because one small dog refused to leave a broken page.
On to the kennel.
4,444 drawings. Four rarities. Every trait listed.
